The terroir of the "Himmelreich" in Graach consists mainly of weathered medium-depth slate soil, combined with a low content of clay. The vineyard is located 110 to 260 meters above sea level and the slopes are steep throughout. The wines from this vineyard are full-bodied and juicy, and in some years also robust and noble. The appellation "Himmelreich" (“kingdom of heaven”) is named after the local cemetery where the vineyard's domain begins.

The estate in Bernkastel possess vineyards throughout the Mosel River Valley, many of which are in the "best of the best" locations such as Bernkasteler alte Badstube am Doctorberg, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher and Zeltinger Himmelreich, Urziger Würzgarten and Goldwingert, Erdener Treppchen and Prälat, Brauneberger Juffer and Juffer-Sonnenuhr.

Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler is owned by Dr. Peter Pauly and his wife Helga, both of whom are traditional advocates of noble wines. The vineyards are mainly planted on, difficult-to-cultivate river valley hillsides and are planted predominantly with late maturity Riesling grapes, which place high demands on their location. A small percentage of the vineyards are planted with Müller Thurgau and Sätburgunder (like Pinot Noir), which are bottled as a remarkable red wine, as a Weissherbst (a special rosé) or as a pressed white summer wine.

Dr. Pauly's pride and joy, his 4.6 acre Bernkastler alte Badstube am Doctorberg vineyard facing directly south, yields some of the greatest wine from the Mosel valley, year after year. It is the neighboring vineyard of the Bernkasteler Doctor and is only planted with Riesling vines which are more than 35 years old. It is a full-bodied wine, rich, complex, with great depth and charm as it ages. Dr.Pauly-Bergweiler is the only wine-maker selling "Bernkasteler alte Badstube am Doctorberg" in the US. The Bernkasteler alte Badstube am Doctorberg wines have always had a very long potential and mature to greater heights as they age.
